Residential Development: Coal Mining Stabilization

Earth Environmental & Geotechnical are involved in the detailed design of coal mine stabilization measures for a large residential development. Using the initial (CMRA) Coal Mining Risk Assessment areas of concern were highlighted and designs to mitigate the risks developed.

The work to date has involved zoning the degree of risk from shallow coal mine workings. If you are planning a development in a High-Risk Area you will need to submit a Coal Mining Risk Assessment to your Local Planning Authority.

Coal Mining Risk Assessment

The fundamental purposes of the coal mining risk assessment are to identify the risks of coal mining at the development site. The Coal Authority is a legal consultant for any planning application within a High-Risk Zone. The coal mining risk assessment includes an assessment of the Coal Authority Mining Report. Also, a visit to the offices of the Coal Authority to assess mining plans, a review of modern and historical published geological maps, and a review of technical reports/memoirs. Basement Impact Assessment

The basement impact assessment (BIA) takes care of the geological and hydro geological conditions of the area and other potential risks such as drainage, flooding, groundwater quality. A Basement impact assessment (BIA) will include phase 1 desk study to verify the site's history, explore hydro-geological and conditions and surface flood risk. Basement changes can add valuable space to your property, but always ensure that the proposed basement development is appropriate.
